About Frances

Frances Fitzgerald Cleveland has worked with horses for more than 25 years in a range of disciplines. Her aspirations started with horses and grew to include people and other animals. In 1996, Frances founded her company, FrogWorks. She has always aimed to heighten the well-being of people and animals naturally, through individualized use of essential oils.

Frances has extensive experience in the realms of health and behavior as it relates to both animals and humans. She obtained certification from the Institute of Dynamic Aromatherapy, founded by Jade Shutes, and the International School of Animal Aromatics. Frances studied in England with Caroline Ingraham, the pioneer of Animal Aromatics. Frances is an apprentice of Rosemary Gladstar, world renowned author, herbalist and teacher, and has completed the intensive Apprenticeship Program and the Science and Art of Herbalism Program in the didactic, therapeutic, laboratory and fieldwork in herbalism. She is also a graduate from the University of Connecticut receiving a BA in Journalism and Environmental Science.

Frances recently trained zookeepers in the use of essential oils on animals. Her groundbreaking Animal Aromatherapy work at The Denver Zoo with the Orangutans, Gorillas and Black Crested Macaques was covered in the Denver Post and L.A.Times. Frances' work has also been written about by the Rocky Mountain News, Associated Press, The German Press and a featured guest on Animal Radio. This work showed excellent results, which confirm the effectiveness of essential oils. These magnificent animals clearly demonstrated which oils they wanted, when they wanted them and how they wanted them applied. They have truly been teachers about how these oils can help them.

Her specific expertise, her love of animals and people, and her commitment to natural healing make Frances a respected and highly effective herbalist and aromatherapist. Frances currently lives in Colorado where she teaches and practices the art of working with essential oils and plants and manufactures her internationally sold products.

About the Name

In China, the Frog is a symbol of good luck. In Japan, it is believed that carrying an image of a Frog in your coin purse, brings the good fortune of having your money returned. The Japanese word for "Frog", "Kaeru," also means "return." The Frog represents participation in the abundant flow of life. The Frog is a symbol of transformation, love and alchemy. The "Frog Prince" beautifully demonstrates these characteristics when a frog convinces a young maiden to kiss him so that his (inner beauty) true identity as a Prince is revealed. Native American culture considers the Frog the cleanser of emotions and is connected to water energy, the energy of emotions. Native Americans believed that the Frog teaches us to honor our tears for cleansing the soul. When ponds are dry, it is the Frog who sings to the heavens to cleanse and replenish the earth. "Frog speaks of new life and harmony through its rain song. Sing Frog Sing! Call the rains, quench the dryness, cleanse the Earth. Then fill me up again." Jamie Sams & David Carson - Medicine Cards

A sense of new life and harmony is facilitated by working with plants and essential oils. Whether in form, appearance or character plants and essential oils enhance one's transformation in healing the body, mind and spirit. The name FrogWorks refers to this powerful/empowering transformation.
